Joanne Louise Cornell

Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend;

Joanne Louise (Palmer) Cornell, 88, of Pelham, died Thursday, March 30th at the Blaire House of Tewksbury. She was the beloved wife of the late Floyd K. “Ken” Cornell who died March 25, 2011. Avid conservationists Joanne & Ken spent many years together hunting & fishing in the Adirondack Mountains. Along that same philosophy, both chose to will their mortal remains to medical schools.  Joanne is teaching at Harvard this spring.
  Born in Saratoga Springs, New York, October 9, 1928, the daughter of the late Earl M. and the late Emily L. (Warner) Palmer, she was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School. Eager to further her education, she then went on to graduate from New York State College (now known as State University of New York) for Teachers in Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Mathematics and then receiver her Master’s in Mathematics.
  Before retiring, Joanne was employed as a Personnel Examiner with the State of New York Department of Civil Service in Albany for over 25 years.
  Among her many activities, Joanne was a member of the National Wildlife Federation, Troop Leader, Associate Chairman, and member of the Board of Directors of the Mohawk Pathways Girl Scout Council as well as a member of the Official Board of the Round Lake United Methodist Church.
  Joanne is survived by a daughter Ann Susan Snide and her husband Todd of Pelham, NH; a son Lee K. Cornell and his wife Anne of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren Rhiannon and Heather Snide and Maura Eddy and her husband Zac and Sean Cornell; a brother Daniel M. Palmer and his wife Barbara of Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.
  The family wishes to thank the nurses at the Blaire House for their efforts in advocating for mom during her final days.
