John G. Maiocchi

World War II veteran, formerly of Pelham, 90

      John G. Maiocchi, 90, of Palmetto, Florida, formerly of Pelham, New Hampshire, died Friday, August 17th at the Ellenton Hospice House in Palmetto. He was the beloved husband of Ruth E. (Flaherty) Maiocchi with whom he celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on April 25th of this year.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, August 1, 1922, the son of the late Alexander and the late Elizabeth (Curran) Maiocchi, he attended Burlington, MA schools and was a graduate of Burlington High School in the Class of 1940, the first graduating class of the school since its opening. He then went on to attend the Lowell Technological Institute.
  A veteran of World War II, John proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy and was awarded the American Theatre medal, the World War II Victory medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre medal.
  Before retiring, John was employed as an Engineering Technician with GTE Sylvania in Needham, Massachusetts for over 33 years.
Among his many activities, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Being all about family, John loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he was affectionately known as “Grumpy Grampy”.
Besides his wife Ruth, John is survived by two daughters Cathleen A. Felch and her husband Thomas of Hudson, NH and Debra R. Royer and her husband Craig of Spring Hope, NC; three sons George A. Maiocchi and his wife Susan of Kannapolis, NC and James H. Maiocchi and Dennis P. Maiocchi and his wife Lori all of New Port Richey, FL; a daughter-in-law Susan P. Maiocchi of Pelham, NH; a sister Elizabeth Balestrieri of Franklin, NH; eleven grandchildren John J. Maiocchi, Stephanie Maiocchi, Wendy Blanchard, Melissa Price, Scott Maiocchi, Shannon Williams, Stacey Maiocchi, Aimee Joyner, Christopher Asselin, Andrew Asselin and Jacob Asselin; a step-grandson Daniel Jemiolo; nine great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
He was also father of the late John W. Maiocchi who died November 21, 2004 and brother of the late Hellen M. Orlando who died April 26, 2010.
  Friends may call at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME 11 Nashua Rd. in Pelham from 4 to 6 P.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service Wednesday morning, September 5th at the Funeral Home at 10 o’clock. Burial in Gibson Cemetery in Pelham.
