Arthur J. Lavigne, Jr.

Arthur J. Lavigne, Jr., age 80, of Atkinson, NH (formerly a resident of Pelham, NH for over 40 years) died following a long illness on May 23, 2017 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA.

He was the beloved husband of Anne Marie (Croteau) Lavigne, his wife of nearly 45 years, who survives him.

Born in Lawrence, MA, a son of the late Arthur J. Lavigne and the late Helen (Donovan) Lavigne,

Arthur attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence and Marist Preparatory in Esopus, NY.

Arthur went on to attend Marist College (B.S., Biology), followed by Fordham University (M.S., Biological Sciences), and ultimately the University of Massachusetts (Ph.D., Education). Arthur taught science courses such as Microbiology, Botany, and Anatomy and Physiology at Middlesex Community College in both Bedford and Lowell, MA.

In addition to his love of education, Arthur enjoyed playing and watching sports, reading, swimming, going to the gym, philosophizing, and visits with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Jeremy J. Lavigne and his wife Kristin of Amherst, NH, and their daughter, his granddaughter, Brynn; two sisters: Kathryn Boisvert, and her husband Donald, of Goshen, MA and Marilyn Mercier of Lawrence, MA; a brother Raymond Lavigne and his wife Sally of Methuen, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME at 11 NASHUA RD in PELHAM, NH from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 30. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be celebrated Wednesday, May 31, at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s church in Pelham, followed by his burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
