Charles H. Drier III
Charles H. “Charlie” Drier III, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home in Pelham, NH, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
He was born in Albuquerque, NM, on February 14, 1953, and travelled the United States and Europe at an early age due to his father’s military career. After graduating in 1971 from Merritt Island High School in Florida, he completed coursework at colleges and universities in Florida and New England.
Charlie was very creative and enjoyed working with his hands, so he decided to pursue a career in the building industry. He took great pride in his work as a finish carpenter. Charlie later became a millwork specialist and was employed by several local building supply companies prior to returning to Florida, where he specialized in sales of numerous brands of custom architectural doors and windows until 2009.
Charlie loved his family and always looked forward to visiting with them. He also loved his pet cat, Kainoa, and genuinely cared about all animals. While living in Florida, he saved over 100 sea turtle hatchlings that were disoriented and heading away from the ocean toward the bright lights of the highway. Several passersby asked him what he was doing, and then joined him in returning many more of the baby turtles to the ocean. Charlie especially enjoyed riding motorcycles, meeting new people, listening to 60’s rock and roll, being near the ocean, and watching Animal Planet or other science-related shows on television. He was artistically inclined, using various art media, and also liked creative cooking.
Charlie leaves behind his loving mother, Dorothy M. Drier, of Pelham; his sister, Linda, and her husband Joseph Delescluse of Hudson, NH; two nieces, Amy and Susan Delescluse, of Hudson, NH; a great-niece and great-nephew; his Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Tivis “Tip” Parker, of NY; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Drier, Jr., USA, Retired.
Cremation has already occurred, and a family remembrance will be scheduled at a later date. Those wishing may make contributions in Charlie’s memory to the Pelham Firefighters Association, 36 Village Green, P.O.
