Helen M. (Leonard) Harris
Beloved sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, and friend;
Helen M. (Leonard) Harris, 99, of Pelham, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 27, 2023, at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH.
Helen was the loving wife of Gilbert H. Harris, who predeceased her in 1988.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Earl S. and the late Rose M. (Bahsler) Leonard, she was a graduate of Lowell High school in the Class of 1942. She continued her education at Lowell Commercial College, graduating in 1944, and obtaining her Accounting Certification.
Prior to her retirement, Helen worked for over 45 years as the Head Bookkeeper for Bay Bank’s Middlesex, now known as Bank of America.
Among her many interests, Helen enjoyed gardening, cooking, and collecting recipes. She was an aspiring seamstress as her collection of material, patterns, and sewing equipment was unrivaled.
One of her biggest enjoyments was planning their annual “summer cookout” for her extended family to come and enjoy a Sunday full of food, fun, and family at their Pelham home. During family holiday celebrations, she took command of carving the holiday pies in a manner that everyone could share in the delicacies that everyone had brought.
She prided herself in her healthcare research for her husband Gil and herself through her homeopathic care and vitamin treatments.
In her younger days she played piano for dances at Pelham Town Hall, the Grange, the PTA and recitals in Lowell.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will remember her tiny songlike laugh as one of her caring traits.
She is predeceased by her siblings Doris (Leonard) Parker, Ernest Leonard and Russell Leonard; her sisters-in-law Bertha (Harris) Hodgeman, Shirley Leonard and Elizabeth Leonard and her brother-in-law Irving Parker.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday September 1, 2023, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH in PELHAM, NH, at 11:30 A.M. Burial to follow at Gibson Cemetery.
