Holly Linda Reed
Beloved aunt, grand aunt and friend;
Holly Linda (Berthel) Reed, 72 of Pelham, NH passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2023, after a sudden illness.
Born on December 29, 1950, Holly was the youngest child of the late Harold Berthel and the late Jetske (Jesse) Berthel. She grew up and attended schools in Melrose, MA, while spending her summers at the family's property on Little Island Pond in Pelham, NH.
Holly cherished her time at Little Island Pond, eventually purchasing a home within walking distance of the shore. She spent nearly every summer day at the water's edge swimming and sunbathing. She was such a mainstay that there was a designated place of honor reserved for her at the end of the dock.
When not at the lake, Holly worked pulling phone lines for Verizon Communications where she traveled all over New England until she reached retirement in the 2000s.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, going to movies/musicals, and spending time with family and friends.
Her love of family was unquestionable and, having no children of her own, she frequently took on the role of babysitter/best friend to her nieces and nephews. That love continued onto the next generation as she became the biggest support, confidant, and cheerleader for all her great nieces and nephews. Her smile lit up a room and she was always available for a good laugh, a hug, or a good venting session. She will be missed by many.
Holly is pre-deceased by her brother Albin Berthel, sisters June Gretter and Barbara Aucoin, and long-time partner, Paul Shanteler.
A true animal lover, she always had a pet in her home. Her preference was dogs, but a cat or two snuck their way into her heart.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in her honor on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Chunky's Cinema in Pelham, NH at 11 o’clock. Arrangements by and e-condolences accepted at www.pelhamfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made in Holly's memory to the Salem Animal Rescue League @ https://www.sarlnh.org/donate.
