James R. Borst
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law;
James R. Borst, 82, of Pelham, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the loving husband for over 55 years of Ginger (Wasik) Borst, who survives him.
James was born in Lowell, MA, on July 30, 1942, the son of the late Stephen and the late Madeline (Sullivan) Borst and attended Lowell Public Schools then graduated from Lowell High School in 1960. He continued his education at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada receiving his bachelor’s degree in education and achieved a Master of Education at Salem State University.
Prior to his retirement, James was a schoolteacher at Lowell High School for over 39 years where he taught US History and taught part time at the Lowell Middlesex Academy School. When he retired from teaching, he worked in the Maintenance Department for the Pelham School District for several years.
A member of the Executive Board of the United Teachers of Lowell for many years, Jim also was the Chairman of St. Patrick’s School Board in Pelham.
Jim was an active community member in Pelham, coaching Pelham Little League and a Scout Leader for Pelham Troop 25 for several years. Within the church, he was a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years and a leader of “the Youth of Tech” group at St. Patrick’s Church.
Besides his wife Ginger, he is survived by their son James Borst of San Clemento, CA; their daughter Kerry Hamlin and her husband, Robert Hamlin of Pelham, NH; and their son Christopher Borst and his wife Kelley (Locke) Borst of Litchfield, NH; as well as six grandchildren: Payton and Jack Hamlin, Layla and Logan Borst, Taylor and Emily Borst; his sister-in-law, Barbara McKenney of Lowell; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great neighbors.
He was also the brother of the late Martha McNamara and his late twin brother Stephen Borst.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28th at St. Patrick’s Church, in Pelham, at 10:00 am. (Please meet at church).
