Paul Delehanty Obituary

Paul J. Delehanty

Beloved husband, father, brother and friend;

Paul J. Delehanty, 78 of Salem, NH, but formerly of Pelham and Dracut, passed peacefully to eternal rest, his family by his side, in the early morning of March 17, 2023.

He was the loving husband for over 45 years of Louise A. (Moisan) Delehanty, who survives him.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, July 9, 1944, the son of the late Joseph C. and the late Helen (Miscone) Delehanty, he attended St. Patrick Grammar school in Lowell and was a graduate of Keith Academy in the Class of 1961.

A veteran of the Vietnam war, Paul proudly served his country in South Korea as a Specialist Fifth Class with the U.S Army.

Prior to his retirement after 40 years in the supermarket industry, Paul was a Manager with the Hannaford Market in Dracut. Previously, he worked at the former Alexander's Markets.

Some thoughts from Paul's wife: "Now, I would like to to introduce you to the wonderful man who became my husband of 45 years. You might have thought he was shy, however, once he spent some time with you, he would engage you in an interesting conversation.  Paul was most learned in history and geography, he scored amazingly in these subjects. Paul was a voracious reader of fiction and non-fiction. He loved to play historical games , placing maps on every available space in our home. Our pets through the years, two cats and two dogs, knew who had the best treats ! I wish I could have seen the welcome Paul received as our pets greeted him as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge !"

"Paul is so special. He fought the good fight for 6 years, never complaining, always courageous. He was no match against PSP Progressive Supranatural Palsy, a very rare disease of the brain. Paul, your journey on earth has ended. Rest in peace. Remember that I will always love you."

Besides his wife Louise, Paul is survived by his daughter Erin M. Douglass and her husband Todd; his sister Barbara A. Delehanty; and his brother-in-law Richard L. Moisan.

A few thank you's from the family. To our dear friends, Jane and Bob, who introduced Paul and I on a blind date over 45 years ago. We are forever grateful. To the entire administration and staff of Greystone Farm and the hospice team. You all made Paul's final journey a little more bearable with your personal dedication, compassion and care. Thank You !
