Richard Carter Obituary

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle;

Richard A. Carter, 91, of Derry, New Hampshire, formerly of Windham, Salem and Pelham, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.

He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Hermez) Carter.

Born in Nashua, NH, December 16, 1933, the son of the late Hermon and the late J. Vera (McCann) Carter, he attended Pelham schools and graduated from Nashua High School.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1958 after serving overseas.

After his service, Richard attended Lowell Technological Institute where he earned an associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He then attended Southern New Hampshire University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Before retirement, he worked as an electrical engineer at Raytheon for over 35 years. He was also proud to have designed and built three houses for his growing family.

He was a member of the VFW and loved spending time traveling, camping, hiking, square dancing, playing cards, with his favorites being cribbage and bridge, completing jigsaw puzzles and tracing his family’s genealogy. His travels took him through the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. His favorite thing to do, however, was spend time with his family, especially his great grandchildren.

Richard  is survived by two daughters, Rhonda K. Southwick and her husband Kevin of Merrimack, NH, and Robyn G. Carter of Manchester, NH; four grandchildren, Justin Hughes and his wife Julie of Windham, NH, Meaghan L. Silva and her husband Antonio of Townsend, MA, Christopher Perez and his wife Zoe of Preston, CT, and Nicholas Perez of Canaan, NH; four great grandchildren, Fernando, Aubrielle, Alessi, and David; a brother, Eugene Carter and his wife Dorothy of Pelham, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
