Richard R. “Ric” Rawson

Beloved husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Ric Rawson, 67, of Pelham, New Hampshire, formerly of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Friday, November 29. Ric was the son of the late Earl and the late Genevieve (Hansen) Rawson and was the brother of the late Barbara (Rawson) Kenney.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Cheryl Bond; his sister Pamela (Rawson) Bennett; his nephews Aaron and Max Bennett and niece Kathleen Kenney; Aunt Nancy Hansen and cousins Rhonda, Debbie, Jeannie, Gail, Beverly and Ginger; his sister-in-law Aili Bond and his mother-in-law Genevieve Bond Ford.

Ric graduated from Hingham High School and attended Salem State College where he met his wife to be and many life-long friends. 

One of them recently said so beautifully: “Yesterday the world lost one of its greatest minds and sweetest souls, and the most loyal friend I could have ever known, Ric Rawson. Gone too soon from us. Whenever I hear a quick wit, I’ll think of Ric. Peace in your next life my friend, and I thank you for the joy you brought to all you touched.”

A history and English major in college, Ric held a wide variety of unusual jobs that leveraged his ability to get along with just about anyone young or old and was fodder for side splitting tales.  At Strawberry Fields, he trekked to the Boston Produce Center to supply produce and meats to restaurants from Orleans to Provincetown, where he was a patron of the Surf Club and fan of the Provincetown Jug Band.  Then came a supervisory stint at CB Associates where his staff included a Deadhead who would disappear for weeks at a time among other characters.  When CB Associates was sold he was, honest to God, a milkman for a company owned by a bookie.  Really.  Prior to retirement, he helped to physically build and then manage Hudson Self Storage where he met a number of people who were down on their luck.  No surprise, he loaned them money, offered advice, and more than once saved photos and other keepsakes from the auction block or dumpster.

Ric loved music and collected over 1000 vinyl recordings.  His tastes ran from Civil War ballads (the Union forever hurrah boys hurrah!) to folk and rock.  Van Morrison and Tom Waits were two of his favorites.  He frequently made his wife crazy blasting unbelievably depressing and nearly unintelligible ballads by Tom Waits and Dave Van Ronk.  He became a reluctant dog Dad and fell hard for his first pup Maddy B.  He would go on to let 4 more dogs into his life, loving every one.  Hopefully, he’s reunited with Maddy, Cody, Jackson, and Spenser the cat across the Rainbow Bridge.  It would crack him up to know that his ashes will have a place of honor on the pet memorial bookcase.
 
Ric was one of a kind and will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. Special thanks to everyone on 6 North at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA, for taking such good care of him. Your patience and kindness meant so much to us.
