Sandra J. Sapienza

Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt

    Sandra J. (Tyrrell) Sapienza, 80, of Pelham, died Wednesday, April 24th in Methuen, Massachusetts following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis J. Sapienza who died in 1997.
    Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, September 12, 1938, a daughter of the late George Francis and the late Elna C. (Alberghene) Tyrrell, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1955.
    She was a communicant of St. Patrick church in Pelham for many years.
    Before retiring, Sandy was employed as an assembler with Honeywell in Lawrence for 10 years. Previously, she worked at Raytheon in South Lowell and North American Aviation in California. Following her retirement, she was a popular bartender at the American Legion Post 100 in Pelham for over 15 years where she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
    Among her many interests, she enjoyed cooking, crocheting, playing pool and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Her true passion however, was the quality time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Sandy is survived by two daughters Cheryl M. Jabour and her husband Nasser of Methuen, MA and Maria C. Pizar and her husband David of Haverhill, MA; five grandchildren Louis Sapienza and his wife Kerry, Jonathan Sapienza and his wife Carolyn, John Chivers and his wife Danielle, Barry Thornton and Mandi Thornton; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister Naida “Rusty” Gauthier of Dracut, MA; a brother George Francis Tyrrell Jr. and his wife Trudy of California; a step-daughter Laurie Painten of Haverhill, MA; a step-son Shane Mambro of Haverhill, MA; six step-grandchildren  Serena Mambro, Nicholas Painten, Alana Painten, Alicia Mambro, Shane Mambro and Jordan Mambro; and several nieces and nephews.
    In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday morning, May 4th at St. Patrick Church in Pelham at 10 o’clock. Committal Services will be held privately.
