Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle;
Stephen R. McCarthy, 88, of Pelham, New Hampshire, died Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Salemhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, NH.
He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Beland) McCarthy, who predeceased him in 1997.
Born in Lowell, MA, on October 9,1937, he was a son of the late Stephen P. and Yvonne (Lepine) McCarthy and was a graduate of Lowell Trade School, now known as Greater Lowell Technical High School.
After high school, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and was Honorably Discharged as Private First Class in 1963.
Stephen was a retired machinist at the Lowell and Andover Raytheon Corporations for over forty years.
He was an outdoorsman, loving hunting and camping. Stephen was an avid gardener always tending to his vegetable garden at his home. Stephen enjoyed spending time in New Smyrna Beach Florida and loved spending time with his loving grandchildren who adoringly called him “Pupup.”
He is survived by three daughters, Paula A. Garabedian and her husband James of Pelham, NH, Janet Y. Lindonen and her husband William of Penacook, NH, and Judy M. McCarthy of Hudson, NH; three grandchildren, Heather M. Clegg and her husband Jonathan of Hudson, NH, James E. Lindonen and his wife Maranda of Boscawen, NH. and John S. Lindonen and his significant other Mia McSweeney of Laconia, NH; five great grandchildren, Faith A Clegg, Emma G. Clegg, Jonathan Lindonen, Cayden Lindonen, and Ethan Lindonen; and many nieces and nephews.
Stephen was the brother of the late Helen Goyette, William McCarthy, Mary McKinnon, and George McCarthy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 am at ST. PATRICK CHURCH, 11 MAIN ST, PELHAM, NH, followed by his burial in Gibson Cemetery. Due to the Lenten season, Kindly Omit Flowers. E-condolences and directions at www.pelhamfuneralhome.com.
